  • BoostMyTalent: Transforming Career Counseling and Higher Education from the Heart of the Himalayas

BoostMyTalent: Transforming Career Counseling and Higher Education from the Heart of the Himalayas

BoostMyTalent, Indias first EdTech platform born in Devbhumi Uttarakhand, is redefining Career Counseling by providing personalized guidance, transparent college comparisons, financial assistance, and guaranteed placement support for students pursuing MBA, MCA, M.Tech, B.Tech, BBA, BCA, and other professional courses.

Unlock Your Potential with BoostMyTalent: Get Expert Admission Counseling for Regular & Online Colleges, Unbiased Course Comparisons, and 100% Placement Support with Our Counseling

With a student-first approach, BoostMyTalent addresses the misleading rankings, inflated placement claims, and lack of clarity in college admissions that leave many students confused about their educational choices. By offering one-on-one counselling, unbiased college insights, and structured career planning, the platform ensures that students make informed, financially sound, and career-driven decisions.

Identifying the Problem: Why BoostMyTalent Was Created

For years, students seeking admission to professional courses have struggled with multiple challenges regarding Collegeselection, availability of Scholarships, Education loans, and the viability of Job Placements. The challenges they face include:

    • Unverified and misleading rankings that prioritize college marketing over actual student benefits.

    • Lack of transparency in college placements, with exaggerated salary figures and misleading employment statistics.

    • High tuition fees and application costs often leave students burdened with unnecessary loans.

    • Lack of Right Criteria to select specialization across different courses leads to poor career outcomes.

“We realized that students dont need another ranking website or an information portal focused on lead generation for colleges. They need a platform that genuinely guides them through the complexities of admissions, finances, and placements-one that is driven by facts, not marketing hype. And thats how BoostMyTalent was born,”– Sandesh Sharma, Founder & CEO, BoostMyTalent.

Overcoming Challenges to Build a Startup in Rishikesh

While the vision for BoostMyTalent was clear, building a tech-driven education platform in Rishikesh was far from easy. Unlike Delhi, Bengaluru, or Mumbai, Rishikesh lacked the startup ecosystem, infrastructure, and workforce needed to scale a digital business.

    Key challenges included:

    • Poor Mobile & Internet Connectivity: Reliable broadband was unheard of in Rishikesh, making virtual counselling and platform development difficult. Frequent outages meant lost business opportunities. The team tackled this by setting up multiple broadband connections from different providers to ensure seamless nationwide operations.

    • Lack of Skilled Professionals in Uttarakhand: With limited job opportunities in the region, most professionals have migrated to metro cities. Hiring local career counsellors, content specialists, and tech experts proved difficult. Instead of waiting for a solution, BoostMyTalent created one: they trained and upskilled local talent while onboarding experienced professionals remotely.

    • Building Trust with Colleges and Employers: Many educational institutions and recruiters hesitated to engage with a startup based in Rishikesh.

    Turning Challenges into Opportunities

Rather than waiting for partnerships to develop organically, BoostMyTalent created opportunities for engagement by inviting colleges, financial institutions, and recruiters to visit their office in Rishikesh. The company strategically coordinated these visits with partner holiday schedules, encouraging them to explore the scenic tri-city areas of Dehradun, Rishikesh, and Haridwar.

“At first, institutions were hesitant to engage with a startup outside metro cities. But when they visited us, it became more than just a business meeting-it was an experience. An evening walk along Marine Drive by the Holy Ganga, a deep discussion over coffee at a riverbank caf, or simply unwinding at a forest retreat with the echoes of Ganga Aarti and local musicians strumming familiar tunes-it was a much-needed escape from the city hustle. They realized that serious business and serene living can coexist,”Shikha Mudgal (PhD), Vice President – Student Advisory & Training, BoostMyTalent.

This unique blend of business and culture helped BoostMyTalent foster strong, long-term alliances with colleges, financial institutions, and employers, proving that great businesses can thrive outside metro cities.

BoostMyTalent is actively reversing this trend by creating local job opportunities in Rishikesh, enabling professionals to return home while maintaining strong career growth.

“Were proving that Uttarakhands professionals dont have to leave home to build a successful career. By establishing a strong EdTech ecosystem in Rishikesh, were creating job opportunities that rival metro cities while allowing people to live in an environment that fosters both professional and personal well-being,” said Mr. Sandesh Sharma.

  • Tetra Pak Introduces Packaging with Certified Recycled Polymers in India

Tetra Pak Introduces Packaging with Certified Recycled Polymers in India

Tetra Pak today announced their offering of packaging material with certified recycled polymers, becoming the first company in the food and beverage packaging industry in India to do so. Its carton packages integrating recycled polymers are certified by ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification), a globally applicable sustainability certification system. The packaging material integrates 5% certified recycled polymers, as mandated by the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, under the Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules 2022. This mandate comes into effect on April 1, 2025.

India’s 1st aseptic carton with certified recycled polymers

This milestone marks a significant step in Tetra Pak’s commitment to circularity, focusing on reducing dependence on fossil-based resources and maximizing material reuse. In addition, Tetra Pak remains dedicated to responsibly sourcing raw materials, designing packages for enhanced recycling and reduced litter, and building strong partnerships to develop effective collection and recycling infrastructure worldwide.

Cassio Simoes, Managing Director, Tetra Pak South Asia said, “We are proud to be the first carton packaging producer to bring packaging material with 5% certified recycled polymers to India. This recycled content is being sourced from India, and the packaging material is also being made at our ISCC PLUS-certified factory in Chakan, Pune. We applaud the commitment of the Ministry of Environment Forests & Climate to promoting circularity, and for making India one of the first countries in the world to introduce this regulation as early as 2025. This is an opportunity for all of us in the food & beverage industry to collaborate closely, and transition to more circular solutions.”

The ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) certified recycled polymers are sourced and allocated to our solutions according to the ISCC mass balance attribution method. Using chemical recycling technology, the plastics are made of a mix of recycled and non-recycled materials, with the corresponding mass of recycled materials tracked throughout the Tetra Pak supply chain. These chemically recycled plastics comply with the same global food contact regulations as virgin polymers. From a quality perspective, chemically recycled plastics are equivalent to fossil-based plastics.

Using recycled material can contribute to increased recycling rates and make recycling more economically viable. Recycled content mandates across the world, including India, offer a regulatory push to ensure producers buy recycled materials; this increases demand and thereby encourages expanded offer.

Simoes added, “The transition to mainstream adoption of materials like plant-based and recycled polymers is still a work in progress. At Tetra Pak, we remain committed to collaborating with our partners and customers to drive innovation and find synergies. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that all our packaging is made from renewable or recycled polymers, eliminating reliance on fossil feedstock. Achieving this vision requires collective action from businesses and other stakeholders, working together to accelerate the shift toward a low-carbon, circular economy.”

    About Tetra Pak

Tetra Pak is a world leading food processing and packaging solutions company. Working with our customers and suppliers, we provide access to safe, nutritious food for hundreds of millions of people in more than 160 countries every day.

  • Mars Petcare and Swiggy Instamart Expand Efforts to Provide Winter Shelters for Community Dogs

Mars Petcare and Swiggy Instamart Expand Efforts to Provide Winter Shelters for Community Dogs

Recognizing the commitment to provide refuge to countless street companions during extreme winters, Mars Petcare and Swiggy Instamart extended their Paw Protecc Initiative to offer a much-needed shield against the season’s biting cold. As winter bids farewell, countless community animals who endured the harsh temperatures found solace through this initiative. Building on the success of the Paw Protecc initiative from the monsoon season, Mars Petcare, in partnership with Swiggy Instamart, deployed more than 200 temporary shelters through January across the Delhi NCR region and Indore through the help of NGO partners. Individual caregivers and NGOs were beneficiaries of the shelters which enabled them to support a few of the community animals under their care.

Mars Petcare and Swiggy Instamarts joint effort to provide shelters for community dogs

This third leg of the initiative aimed to provide essential warmth and comfort to community dogs and cats, helping them brave the winter season. With pollution levels adding to the health challenges faced by street animals, these strategically placed shelters became critical lifelines, ensuring their safety and well-being. uStrategically placed in high-need areas, the shelters provide a vital refuge-shielding them from extreme weather and offering a rare moment of comfort amid their struggles. To extend the impact, Mars Petcare partnered with Friendicoes SECA to maintain these mobile shelters, ensuring they remain equipped with essential food and water for dogs and cats on the streets. This collaboration strengthens the initiative’s sustainability, providing consistent care and support throughout the winter season.

Reflecting on the initiative’s success, Salil Murthy, Managing Director, Mars Petcare India expresses that, “At Mars Petcare, we believe in not just caring for pets but also standing by the community animals who bring so much love and companionship into our world. Phase III of Paw Protecc’s winter shelter initiative is just one of many steps that we as industry leaders are taking to ensure that street animal is left out in the cold. Every life matters, and through this initiative, we hope to extend kindness and protection to those who have no one else looking out for them. Mars Petcare will remain unwavering in its mission to create a world where animals are loved, protected, and cared for and we’re glad to partner with Swiggy Instamart to champion this. As more people come together for this cause, Mars Petcare continues to lead the way, proving that a little warmth-both in shelters and in hearts-can truly make a difference.”

The BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ helps cities be pet-friendly so more people can enjoy the benefits of a life with pets. It was created by Mars Petcare and includes a playbook for cities, an assessment tool, a city certification program, and free online resources. Paw Protecc continues Mars significant legacy of supporting nearly 10 million vulnerable pets globally over the past three years. Launched in August last year, the Paw Protecc campaign received widespread appreciation for its efforts in enhancing the well-being of community animals. As part of the initiative, more than 200 shelters were delivered across Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore, ensuring safer spaces for pets and reinforcing the vision of a more pet-friendly world. Since its launch, 500 mobile shelters have been deployed by Mars Petcare and Swiggy Instamart as part of this campaign.

A Unique Initiative for Community Animals

What sets the Paw Protecc Initiative apart is its focus on providing mobile shelters that are strategically placed at common feeding points across the city. These shelters offer reliable protection for homeless pets, shielding them from extreme weather conditions throughout the year. Each mobile shelter is shared by multiple community dogs, ensuring that many animals benefit from a single placement.

Numerous kittens, puppies, and adult community animals have embraced these shelters, finding in them a place they can call their own. The initiative has garnered widespread support from animal lovers and caregivers who actively maintain these shelters and care for the pets in their vicinity. This compassionate network of pet lovers plays a crucial role in sustaining the initiative, ensuring that community animals continue to receive food, water, and protection.

Government’s Support for Recycling Industry Growth

Speaking at the conference, Naresh Pal Gangwar, Additional Secretary, MoEFCC, outlined the government’s roadmap for sustainability and resource efficiency, stating, “Achieving India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2040 requires manifold growth in GDP, increased consumption, and efficient management of material resources.”

Supporting this view, Vinod Kumar Tripathi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, reaffirmed the need to improve the recycling ecosystem. He stated, “By strengthening our recycling infrastructure, supporting education and awareness campaigns, and encouraging industries to adopt circular economic principles, we can build a thriving, sustainable future for all.”

    Industry Leaders and Global Perspectives

    • Major General K. Narayanan, Program Director, Niti Aayog, highlighted the role of innovation and collaboration in maximizing India’s recycling potential.

    • Dr. Soumya Gurjar, Hon. Mayor of Jaipur, stressed the need for greater participation of women entrepreneurs in the recycling sector and praised Prof. Bineesha P., Advisor at MRAI, for her contributions.

    • Robin Wiener, President of ReMA, lauded MRAI’s advocacy efforts, while Arnaud Brunet, Director General of BIR, and Susie Burrage OBE, President of BIR, shared perspectives on the challenges posed by evolving EU regulations on shipping.

Government Approves Zero Duty on Non-Ferrous Scrap: A Game-Changer for Recycling

In a landmark decision, the Government of India has reduced the basic customs duty on non-ferrous scrap to zero percent, marking a major breakthrough for the recycling industry. The duty exemption applies to key materials such as Lead, Zinc, Copper, Brass, and Lithium-Ion Battery Scrap, providing a boost to India’s circular economy and sustainable manufacturing sector.

MRAI’s Advocacy Paves the Way for Policy Reforms

Sanjay Mehta, President of MRAI, expressed his gratitude for the government’s progressive decision, stating, “MRAI has consistently engaged with stakeholders and government bodies to bring about such transformative reforms. The duty-free non-ferrous scrap marks a critical advancement for the recycling industry.”

He further noted MRAI’s ongoing efforts to reduce duties on aluminium scrap, aligning India’s policies with global standards.

Union Budget 2025: Boosting India’s Recycling Industry

The Union Budget 2025, presented by Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs, stressed the importance of exports and imports as key drivers of economic growth. The reduction in non-ferrous scrap duties is a strategic move to enhance manufacturing competitiveness and facilitate access to affordable raw materials. The decision aligns with India’s broader vision of Viksit Bharat, accelerating growth and strengthening the recycling sector as a key contributor to a resource-efficient economy.

    Projected Growth and Sustainability Mandates

The Indian recycled metal market, which generated USD 28.9 million in 2023, is projected to reach USD 38.0 million by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 4% from 2024 to 2030. The zero-duty policy is expected to lower operational costs and encourage greater recycling activities, reinforcing India’s circular economy.

A significant step toward sustainable manufacturing, the budget introduces zero import duty on non-ferrous metal scrap, including lead, zinc, copper, cobalt powder, lithium-ion battery scrap, and 11 other critical minerals. The measure is set to transform India’s recycling sector, reducing production expenses while strengthening the country’s position in global markets.

Additionally, the government has mandated a minimum of 5% recycled content in all new non-ferrous metal products from FY 2028, with targets set for 10% recycled aluminium, 20% copper, and 25% zinc by FY31. These measures are designed to reduce industrial waste, enhance resource utilization, and support long-term environmental objectives.

    MRAI’s Call for Further Reforms

In continuation of these efforts, MRAI has urged the government to remove Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on all grades of aluminium scraps, Cupro Nickel & Nickel containing Brass, and Zinc dross scrap under HS code 26201910. With aluminium recycling alone cutting energy consumption by over 95%, such measures would significantly reduce emissions and support India’s environmental objectives. The budget’s provisions are set to accelerate the recycling sector’s expansion.

    MRAI’s Continued Engagement with Policymakers

Amar Singh, Secretary General of MRAI, highlighted the association’s role in shaping policy, “In aluminium, we have achieved what we set out to do, ensuring that scrap is imported based on its specification. On the policy front, JNARDDC has been authorized as a metal recycling authority by the Ministry of Mines, marking a significant step in policy-driven change.”

    Tax Reforms and Mission LiFE

The Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI) welcomed the tax policy updates of 2024, including the implementation of the Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) under GST and the introduction of a 2% Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on non-ferrous scrap purchases. These reforms enhance compliance, increase transparency, and streamline operations in the recycling sector.

Speaking at MRAI’s 12th IMRC in Jaipur, Naveen Sharma, Vice President of MRAI, urged the government to extend RCM to e-waste and battery waste, covering chapters 83, 84, and 85, which will advance formal sector participation.

Calling attention to the economic potential, Dhawal Shah, Senior Vice President of MRAI, noted, “The Indian non-ferrous metal industry is currently valued at $18 billion and is projected to reach $30 billion in the next five years. Renewable energy, automotive, and packaging sectors offer immense growth potential.”

A Collective Step Toward a Greener Future

MRAI extends its deep appreciation to the Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, for supporting the recycling sector. The removal of import duties on non-ferrous scrap marks a watershed moment, positioning India as a leader in sustainable metal recycling. This move, backed by key ministries, is expected to reduce production costs, drive the adoption of recycled materials, and enhance India’s global competitiveness in green manufacturing.

Shri H. D. Kumaraswamy, Minister of Steel; Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of Mines; Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Corporate Affairs; and Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, have played pivotal roles in defining this progressive policy.

With this pivotal policy move, the nation accelerates its transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable future.

ET NOW Global Business Summit Day 2 Concludes on a High Note, Celebrating India’s Growth and Innovation

Day 2 of the Times Group ET NOW Global Business Summit 2025 ended on a high note with a conviction that India is all set to be the force to reckon with, with its Innovations, Industries, and Aspirations. Reiterated by the assembly of 1,000+ Delegates, Industry Captains, and Dignitaries from across the globe, the summit wrapped up with promise of a better future for the country and its countrymen.

The day started on a positive note with Minister of Commerce and Industry, India, Shri Piyush Goyal leading.

India is well on track to become a $30-35 trillion economy in the next two decades,” said Piyush Goyal at The Times Group ET NOW Global Business Summit 2025. “Our focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive growth will ensure that this vision becomes a reality.” While addressing the summit on the second day, Goyal emphasised that India will emerge as the world’s third-largest economy sooner than anticipated, citing the nation’s rapid economic progress.

Goyal highlighted India’s rising global influence, its push for manufacturing and innovation, and the government’s commitment to inclusive, women-led development. “Today, we are the voice of the Global South, shaping international trade and economic policies. Our robust industrial ecosystem and relentless focus on self-reliance are making India a global manufacturing powerhouse.” He also pointed to the country’s startup revolution, noting, “India is now home to the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, with over 115 unicorns and 160,000 registered startups. Our young entrepreneurs are redefining business and technology, proving that India is a land of limitless opportunities.”

Goyal emphasised the critical role of women in India’s economic rise, stating, “The rise of India’s women is at the heart of our growth story. Female participation in the workforce has increased from 11% a decade ago to nearly 45-50% today. Nari Shakti is shaping India’s future.”

In a session titled Breaking the Clutter: The Art of Seamless Innovation, Akis Evangelidis, Co-founder, of Nothing, shared, “We were the fastest-growing smartphone brand in India last year, with 77% year-on-year growth. Our strategy began with design differentiation-creating products instantly recognisable without a logo. Now, we’re doubling down on software and AI to redefine the smartphone experience. The industry has remained stagnant for years, and we see a massive opportunity to rethink user interaction. AI will play a key role, not just as a buzzword, but in solving real-world problems. As we scale, our focus remains on delivering innovation that stands out in a crowded market.”

Katie Sadleir, CEO, of the Commonwealth Games Federation, stated, “India’s work is transformational. With the right leadership, infrastructure, and passion, India is on track to becoming one of the top 10 countries in the Olympics. Sports are hugely significant in creating the image of a country. Being recognised as a sporting powerhouse enhances a nation’s influence on the global stage.” Speaking alongside Luciano Rossi, President of The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), Sadleir praised India’s world-class sports infrastructure, calling it a testament to the country’s growing commitment to international competition.

In Global Energy Dynamics: India’s Path Forward, Arvind Tiku, Founder of AT Capital Group, discussed Indias role in global energy geopolitics. He said, “Energy has long been a key instrument of geopolitics. While global peace post-World War II kept this less visible, the Russia-Ukraine conflict has brought it back into focus. With Europe’s shift away from Russian imports and costly US alternatives, India, with the world’s fourth-largest refining capacity, has an opportunity to export finished products. Through skilled diplomacy, India has effectively navigated the crude oil import landscape to safeguard its interests within the global energy framework. While the green energy transition is underway, fossil fuels will remain a crucial part of India’s energy mix for at least the next 30-40 years, until 2050-2060.”

Meanwhile, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder & CEO of Paytm, addressed the fintech sector’s evolution in The Future of Fintech: Innovations and Opportunities. He said, “Our past experiences have made us stronger and better. We are back with numbers and market share. Payments as a standalone offering can drive profits, with a focus on 200-250 million quality customers. Just as new technologies have created opportunities and boosted productivity in the past, we expect AI to do the same for our future growth.”

Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary, of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, stated, “India is a solar superpower, reaching 100 GW in record time, putting the country on a path to meet PM Modi’s ambitious 500 GW target for clean energy. Investment only reaches levels like these because of commercial and economic self-interest. Indian companies, and more like them, see huge potential and profits.”

In Beyond Influence: The Future of the Creator Economy, Konrad Bergstrm, Founder and President of X Shore, emphasized the intersection of innovation and sustainability. He stated, “Innovation and sustainability have always driven me-from transforming Marshall into a billion-dollar brand to now revolutionising water transport with electric boats. Success isn’t just about wealth; it’s about building solutions that enhance experiences while respecting the planet.”

The day ended with a high-spirited discussion on the recent phenomenon of the entertainment business.

The Business Entertainment in a Global Paradox session featured insights from King Willonius, an AI storyteller and Hollywood filmmaker, on the impact of AI on creative industries. “AI tools now let artists produce high-quality work without major budgets, disrupting traditional barriers. The future belongs to those who adapt.” Stefano Fallaha, CEO of Podeo UAE, added, “The media landscape is shifting toward authentic, raw narratives. Governments and brands must recognize the power of digital creators, as audience discernment will shape the future of media.”

Gina Dirawi, Swedish Television Presenter, Singer-Songwriter, Author, Comedian, Radio Personality, and Actress stated, “Creating art isn’t about chasing reach or attention – it’s about digging deep to tell the stories that matter. When you create from a place of truth and personal alignment, you carve out a space where you can fully exist in the world. Representation starts with daring to ask, ‘Why not me‘ and continues by holding space for perspectives we may not always understand. Real impact happens when we create from the heart, not for strategy, but for connection.” “Be authentic,” she said.

The Times Group ET NOW Global Business Summit 2025 Day 2 continued to be as impactful as the first day with the interesting session, furthering the important conversations around India’s role in the global economy. Leaders focused on India’s strengths in innovation, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance, underlining the summits theme, ‘Evolve, Emerge, Expand,’ and setting the stage for forward-thinking discussions that will influence industries, economies, and societies.
